After trading a lot on this site, I think it's time to give back a little. icon_smile.gif

I have for free a Final Fantasy XIII or God of War III game (new and sealed).

Winner just PM me whether you want:
- FFXIII (on XBOX360 or PS3)
or
- God of War III (I believe it's PS3 exclusive)

I will have it sent to your address when the respective games come out (no pickup). Note that this is game only, no "special edition" or "collections" versions lol

But to be a chosen winner, first you have to answer the following three (3) questions:

Multiple Choice
1.) You achieve financial independence in your life when:
a. You get a job/ work that produces monthly income that is greater than your monthly expense
b. You acquire assets (portfolio/ passive) that produce monthly income that is greater than your monthly expense
c. You win a $1,000,000 jackpot

Short Essay
2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:
a. My parents' allowance.
b. My job (full time/ part time).
c. My girlfriend/ wife OR boyfriend/ husband.
d. My assets: house, boat, car, PS3, XBOX360, LCD TV, phones, etc.
e. Business.
f. Real estate.
g. Stock/ shares.
h. Other.

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

---

Answers close at 12:01 AM midnight, 11 March. I will pick winner myself and announce the winner at 12:01 PM noon, 11 March.

Note: only question #1 has the right/ wrong answer. Questions #2, 3 seek opinions/ no right/ wrong answers, you just have to be honest/ true to yourself (it's best that way, trust me).

Get them answers in now!! icon_smile.gif

I just realized that answer to question #2 might be private to some people and they don't want others to know... so you can PM me your answer.

But I have to say I prefer you post your answers here in this thread than PMing me. I don't think you should be embarrassed with your investment plan... whatever it is. Even if you borrow gazillion money for it... in my opinion, borrowing money for a smart investment is better than deciding not to invest and play it safe because you have no money. But you must explain why you think it's a smart investment. icon_smile.gif

You'll definitely get a + from me if you post in this thread instead of PMing me.

1. hmmm I'd go with b) because a) is dependent on your workplace

2. don't really know what catgory to put its kinda b and d. My first job I ever had was paper delivery. My best investment was a $8 trolley thing that I bought from the salvos. I used this $8 trolley for almost 2 years and it is the most profit I have ever made on anything.

3. Well 2010 is just begining but I have one from late 2009. I was between classes at uni and had a couple coupons for free food at kfc, when the kfc guy wouldn't let me use more than one coupon I walked back down the street where I had noticed a homelss guy and gave him the coupon. He was surprisingly grateful.

Hi,

For question 1, I would choose (b), as the reason being (a) essentially you are working for someone else, and also depending on many factors such as the economy, which in the worst case scenario you will lose your job as many people have experienced in the past year. I didn't choose (c) as it's just too depend on one's luck and does not represent the majority people's situations, there can only be 1 winner out of so many lottery buyers. In a sense, yes winning can give financial independence, but a lump sum can also create a sense of false security, and I have heard quite a few stories lottery winners spent it all in a short time and went broke.

My best investment I have made I would say I chose to study and finished a uni degree as it improves my job/career opportunities and I certainly have got a few offers in the past of which one specific requirement is have a tertiary qualification. Sure it's a bit expensive (whether using HECS or not), and it does not give you too much working experience, but yeah that's the one thing immediately came to my mind.

One generous thing I have done I guess I would say is particularly relevant to Palgn/gaming is I have recently giveaway 2 PC beta codes for BF BC2 here, and right now there is another giveaway from me for the extra weapon code from preorder of the game. And in the near future, I am thinking just going through my old games collections and find some I no longer needed and give them away here as well. Although I have to say they are nothing compared to the giveaways you are offering right now. : )

My preference would be FF13 on 360 if I win. After attending the Sydney IMAX event this week, I am quite impressed by the game to say the least.

Thanks and good luck to everyone.

James

2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:
d. My assets: house, boat, car, PS3, XBOX360, LCD TV, phones, etc.

best asset would have to be my ps3, home theater and lcd tv reason being is that i can escape from all reality and delve into the depths of the gaming world to whom which i the very very dearly.

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

my most generous thing would have to be helping my parent out with credit card payment of $1600, how i got that money was on the horse races pulling a first 4 some how twas remarkable really.

Great Give Away Mate.

1) - has to be B. A is still reliant on a job, and C is just a disaster waiting to happen. B keeps you a float and secure without a job. As the phrase goes: Any man can survive with a job, it takes a real man to survive without one.

2) My best investment would be my relationship. I've been with my wife 12 years, married for 8 1/2. You always have to put some effort in a relationship, but for each bit of effort you put in, the rewards and love is exponential.

3) In 2010, my team at work will be helping out in a soup kitchen during winter. It will be combined as a team building exercise, but will be great to put back a little into the community. Because with B from question 1, any of us could end up such a situation.

Nice giveaway.

1) I think depending on the person all 3 answers can give rise to financial independence, because simply put you are in a position to support yourself independently. The money in C can be used to purchase an annuity/passive income stream that should yield enough (assuming you dont go crazy) to give financial independence. Probably in this case, B and C give you greater flexibility in getting a passive income stream and the option to get a normal job on top of that.

2) Probably shares. Got into the market post GFC, so was a bit lucky in this regard to gain abnormal returns.

3) Finishing uni in the middle of the year and looking to join an international volunteer program in Africa for about 6 months. Hoping to use this as a bit travel/self reflection time.

1) b.

2) My girlfriend. Over most of my life, I’ve considered myself to be a very selfish individual. I also can’t help but admit that being the only boy amongst 3 sisters and having to go to boarding school for about 4 years contributed to that. When my girlfriend came along, I knew inside that she was a person worth investing in. In terms of my time, effort and money. In the past, I’d laugh at the prospect of giving someone else all the cool things that I either bought or requested from my family. Nowadays, I get more enjoyment out of buying or doing things for her than I would for myself. So far, a few of the things I’ve gotten her were a DS lite and an iTouch but in exchange, she’s given me a sense of stability and contentment in my life that you simply can’t get anywhere else. In her words, I also give her these things too but as this is PALGN, it’s best to talk in terms of video games.

One last thing. If you looked at things practically in a financial sense, my girlfriend and I already share the same last name so we’d save on any legal fees that would arise from a change in last name should we ever get married. icon_biggrin.gif

3) I’ve never been one for charity. I’ve seen and lived in 3rd world countries for too long now to realistically think that anything I’d ever do or say could actually help all the unfortunate people before me. However, what I’d like to do would be to be more giving around my family and friends. I’d like to get around to sending my cousin in Fiji a PS3 and some games as his broke for some reason. Either that or a Wii as it would be the best thing for him and his mentally-handicapped sister to play together. I’d also like to get my little sister something decent for her birthday next month as I’m working a fair bit now and can afford it. Also, I’d like to someday take my family out to dinner one day as my relationship with them hasn’t been the best over the last few years.

Nice comp, IceboX.

Oh might as well.

Multiple Choice
1.) You achieve financial independence in your life when:
b) - because in order to gain financial independence you would need to have no people of power above you, and with option b, you have no real superiors, and are independent.

Short Essay
2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:

I must say, my best investment to date would have to be the $100 I paid to take part in the Melbourne High Entrance Exam. Now that money would have gone to waste had I not got in, but now that I have, I can say in hindsight that I do not regret it at all.
Had I stayed at my previous school, my motivation to achieve a study that I would need in order to do the occupation I desire would not be there. Going to Melbourne High has given me a new outlook on life, which I hope in turn will leave me feeling my life is accomplished when it comes to an end.
I conclude by confidently stating that the best investment in my life to date was that Melbourne High test.

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

I plan to take part in the World Challenge this year, which as of this point without hindsight is going to be the most generous thing I will do this year. The world challenge will mean I help kids and families, while learning what life in certain parts of Argentina are like.
I may also be going to Northern Territory this year, becoming immersed in Aboriginal culture and gaining a more vast knowledge of how they live. I wouldn't be suprised if I wasn't helping around either.

Why the hell not, one less game I'd have to find & buy when I have the cash if I win it. icon_razz.gif

#1: By the literal definitions the answer is B for the accumulation of personal wealth to live indefinitely without having to work auto excludes A for the fact of working and excludes C for the fact that $1m on its own does not ensure indefinite living in today's material society. In saying that however, C is ambiguous in that while the cash is not wealth in itself, it could afford greater wealth than what B could give and thus be the better choice in the end.

Thus I call shenanigans and B+C are equally as viable depending on the individual in question, although literal definition is B.

#2: Other: My greatest investment to date is my childhood for it has created the man I am today, and without such an investment I would not be me, which arguably is the greatest treasure that man can afford in the self to achieve so much. Outside of that it is of course the connection to my other half, for while the self needs to be invested in to proceed, it also needs a reason to and she is that beacon.

#3: As of now, nothing I would consider generous, all which I would consider right. You see someone broken down on the road you stop to help, you see a kid dehydrated you offer him some water, someone asks you for assistance and you can, you give it for no reason other than they asked. For what I will do, I simply cannot answer for tomorrow is a new day with new challenges and new reasons to act if you are able.

I will say that previously this has extended to friends in the workplace who needed to set up payments or an information system at no cost which one might consider generous whereas I simply considered it helping out a friend. It is all relative and money is inherently a fickle thing of worth to the few.

And I'd preference FFXIII on the PS3 but hell truth be told I just enjoyed the question line, so cheers for the opportunity. icon_lol.gif

Let me say this again. BEST.GIVEAWAY.EVAR! I GIVE IceboX 52 Internetz!

Question 1:
For me, it's a no-brainer; it's A, financial independence is different from being rich, or not having to work at all. That said I wouldn't mind either of tehm XD

Question 2:
For me it would definitely be Other. That being the friends group that I have. Reason why is none of them are douchebags, and we all help each other out in school and stuff. Although I'm still in school, having these people to rely on is great, school wouldn't be survivable without them, and I doubt I would go nearly as well as I am ATM if it wasn't for my friends group.

Question 3:
Something generous I did, last week in fact, was running the Project Compassion at our school whilst the Year 12's were on retreat. We actually managed to get around $1,200 in total from the school this week so that was awesome. I also spent my Wednesday night being an usher for the installation of the new Bishop of Parramatta, it was a bit weird, but very long and painful at five hours of standing :S

TBH I don't mind eitheir game, whichever you find easier/cheaper for yourself to get. Once again BEST.GIVEAWAY.EVAR!

Wow, this is extremely generous of a member!

Question 1: For me financial independence would most likely be C, life is full of gambles and by winning $1M you have turned a $3 lottery ticket into an asset. You yourself went out and bought that ticket, you didn't rely on anyone else to choose your numbers, it was all you.

Question 2: For me my best investment would definitely be in the "h" category, my body. From a young age till last year i was a fat slob. No joke, it was not until last year in my last year at high school and my upcoming formal that i realised that if i didn't make an impression then all these years have been wasted, i needed to leave my mark. So long story short, within three months i trimmed down 15kg's by finding something active to do/eating better, a funny example is playing MW2 standing up and jogging icon_biggrin.gif

Question 3: Probably the crappest answer here but the most generous thing i did was save both my mates $80 by telling them that AvP was a horrible game icon_razz.gif

Answer1.
a. You get a job/ work that produces monthly income that is greater than your monthly expense.
I think this is the correct answer because earning monthly income to cover monthly expenses is what allows you to be fully independant and don't need help from family/friends anymore.

Answer2.
The most worthwhile investment to date for me would be h. OTher. my group of friends and my family. They are the most important people in my life. I am so glad to have my friends to do stupid things with (lol including getting drunk and setting my school bag on fire (full of my university textbooks T_T)). I'd say the 2nd most worthwhile investment would be the FragnStein that I just bought LOL...its dayum sexy..

Answer 3.
Well I havne't done it yet. But me and my group of friends plan to do something crazy again lol...SIGN UP FOR THE GREATEST SHAVE in 2010 haha...it's a charity if you haven't heard of it before. I'm not sure if this is generous because we're not actually donating that much ourselves as we don't really have much money, but we are helping to get more donations.

1.) You achieve financial independence in your life when:

You acquire assets (portfolio/ passive) that produce monthly income that is greater than your monthly expense

2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:

This is a toss up between my partner and my baby grand. But honestly as they are different they give different enjoyments. But would honeslty have to say my kawai baby Grand. Sadly as it is a baby it bass and depth will never be there but the enjoyment or hearing mario, mozart, bach, final fantasy; and the looks of excitement on my family and friends faces when i play makes it the best thing ever.

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

The most generious thing i have done this year is help out my parents by being there for then in their times of need and putting my self out so they can benefit.

Anyhow awesome giveaway.

Holy crap this is awesome!

Multiple Choice
1.) You achieve financial independence in your life when:
a. You get a job/ work that produces monthly income that is greater than your monthly expense

Easy. So long as you can manage your budget and pay your needs, then you're all good. I don't always get the latest games because I have bills to pay, but it means I get to live independently.

Short Essay
2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:
h. Other.

Hard question. I guess from a purely financial perspective, i'd say assets. From an emotional perspective, everything else. Not everything is financial to me, and my most important assets are my wife and soon to be born daughter icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

This one, I can't answer. I don't plan, I just do. I just like making people happy, so whenever I get the chance I do.

d. My assets: house
Easy one for me, gone is worrying about rental places and when we bought our house we went with the one with everything we wanted, renovating is for chumps! (And people who are handy)
An even better and more passive characteristic is that our house value is rising by the day as houses are built all around us in new estates... Our house is in a fairly substantial area, the house is about 15 years old...

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

2010 is still very young, one of our annual events we attend is the Children's Hospital Good Friday appeal held at Etihad\Telstra\Colonial Stadium in Melbourne. My wife and I have been going for a good 5 years, even before we had children. We like attending as it's a fun day to go have a look, grab a bite to eat and go home safe in the knowledge that every dollar spent is going to the appeal, you just never know when you will need to go there... Touch wood... I've known loads of people that have had kids go through there...

+1 on the giveaway too, great stuff... I'd probably be likely to give the game away to the Children's Hospital if I won anyway...

3) Best thing I've done this year is donate some PS3 and PS2 games to my local hospital where I just recently spent some time in, unfortunately icon_sad.gif - No not some crappy shovelware either, I'm talking AA/AAA games, I even donated my copy of ICO on ps2:D

If I won I'd be like to get FF13 on ps3 <3

1) B

2) My best investment is my commitment to being honest. While it doesn't always win me friends and sometimes get's me in trouble, for the most part it's been good. It has paid dividends in my workplace and in relationships and I never have the dreaded feeling of being caught out for anything.

3) I can't think of anything that could class me as generous. I've helped my family out when needed and bailed out friends if they were struggling.

I can't go Writing a Million words as then i would end up stretching my stories...

For the first question, i choose B. Plain and simple, Multiple choice no explanation needed ?

For 2.

Being a student, It's hard to have an investment, as i don't see a job being an investment as such, because you don't have a say in the financial overseeing of the business and the turnover. Although i do have a Car, a 1988 CRX, It's my pride and joy, An investment doesn't need to make you money but it should defiantly make you happy for it to be worth while. The most successful businessmen in the world would of had to have the passion for the industry they were entering there investment into. To be successful, So that would be my best investment. I must say it's a lot better now then when i first got it.

And finally,

The most thoughtful thing I've done this year is donate my final weeks worth of Pay from the Christmas holidays - 441 Dollars to the Haiti Earthquake victims, maybe this is not as big a deal as some of the other kind things people have done in this thread, but i believe my donation can make a change, it won't change the world but if it gives 2 or 3 people shelter im happy, as i had Family in the Boxing day tsunami. In a world that is constantly being ridiculed by violence in the streets and alcohol and drug abuse, Terrorism, ****. It doesn't make sense why suffering people are made to suffer more. I guess it sounds hypocritical in a sense that im talking about a donation i made out of good will to somewhat enter me in a prize draw for a prize.

Win or loose, Every member who enters should stand by the generous things they have done and not over exaggerate not that im accusing any members but its a problem that can happen on an internet Forum,

Cheers,
Brock.

1.) You achieve financial independence in your life when:

I believe the answer is A or B because I consider being financially independent as a position where all your expenses are covered by your income no matter where these expenses and incomes comes from, either from assets or from your occupation. Either one of these answers means that you are self sustaining in your life thus you are financially independent needing no outside help or sources to pay off any expenses.

2.) What is your best investment to date, and EXPLAIN why it is:

My best investment is my tertiary study. I considered this my best investment so far in my life because this is something that I will have for the rest of my life, unless I get amnesia somehow icon_smile.gif. Most other things that I have are material objects and these can either be replaced or be eventually thrown out.

Furthermore, my education is something that I am proud to have achieved and I feel it is something significant I've done in my life so far and although I haven't I just recently graduated and haven't found a job yet it is still something I find important even if I never use it in my life because the whole process was a worthwhile experience.

3. What's a generous thing you have done/ will do in 2010? How did/ will you do it?

If I win the prize for this competition then I will send out whatever I win to someone else on these forums after I finish the game so that someone else can also benefit from IceboX's generosity.

Also this Maybe we could have this as an ongoing process that when whoever wins or has the game finishes with it they can send it along on its way so someone else can have a turn.
