Re: Iron Man 2 [Spoilers] (9 months ago)
Awesome new poster that also gives you your first glimpse of War machine!!!!!!

2012

Some awesome stuff here. Definitely Emmerich's best and it's gonna be hard to top himself with this one. The plot surprisingly isn't half bad, albeit ridiculous of course, but satisfactory, and the performances are good across the board. My eyes were glued to the screen when California just falls apart before my very own eyes. Highly recommended. And don't be a dumbass and go in expecting an arty flick or anything. I mean, how could you? My only problem is the running time. Could've easily chopped about 20 minutes off. A good 8/10 from me.
THE STRANGERS

Watched this again. Such an outstanding horror film. The performances were excellent and so convincing and I feared for the protagonists. Suspense is well created and terror is almost forced upon us. By far one of the greatest horror films I've seen in years. I'm actually quite surprised this didn't get a nomination for Best Picture... It's that good... Of course this is just my opinion though. I am interested to see what other people have to say.

4/5

Actually, I enjoyed it so much that I might even bump it up to a superlative 5 out of 5!!!

No, they weren't, and that was the problem. Too many random moments where they'd show the dogs ****, and that little robot **** megan fox's leg. And those two other ones with the stupid voice just made it stupid.

It was jokes aimed towards little kids, but with adult content, so they were obviously aimed at small minded fools like you.
Ohh, a little harsh. LOL. So, am I meant to be sorry that I liked it?

I watched Law & Order just last night and was thinking how cool an actor Goldblum actually is. It disgusts me when people start rumors like this. Along with the Goldblum rumors, I also heard Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford, which is just simply ridiculous.

In regards to Fawcett and Jackson. It really is a tragic, a very sad thing. Jackson especially came as an utter shock when I woke up this morning and it was the first thing I heard. I couldn't believe it. As for Fawcett, her legacy will be an inspiration for millions. For the past few months, Fawcett is all that Entertainment Tonight has been really. You couldn't help but feel for her.
Just got back from the cinema!

It was great fun. Anybody who enjoyed the first should definitely enjoy this one. They brought back all our favorite characters (the parents had a bigger role than they did in the first and the mother was hilarious! John Turturro is also back, and he's just as good as he is in the first one), and the additional characters such as the "Twins" and Wheelie, as well as Jetfire (an elderly Transformer) were great additions and were really funny at times. Unfortunately, other new Autobots/Decepticons, such as Arcee and Devestator, played fairly minor parts (Sideswipe is rarely seen throughout the movie, but had a very cool role towards the beginning), but that didn't really bother me.

The special effects were great too and is what you'd expect from a big budget blockbuster such as this. I didn't entirely feel like it was overlong like a lot of the critics had primarily criticized. However, I did feel as though they could have chopped off about 15 minutes from the big finale, but other than these fairly minor issues, this sequel truly is bigger, louder, funnier, etc. You see a lot more of the Transformers in this sequel than in the first as well. I'm still undecided though on if I like the first one better or this one, but nonetheless, fans of the first movie should have a great time. icon_biggrin.gif
Will be checking this out tomorrow night at 9 30 (won't finish til about midnight!!). Really pumped for this!

Does anybody know when/if Moon will get an Australian release?
Cannot wait for that movie! Rockwell... Well... Rocks!

The Sony Pictures Australia site say it'll come to cinemas here on September 3... icon_wink.gif
Land of the Lost

I decided to go see this over Year One earlier today. I actually really enjoyed it. It's not a fantastic film. It's not one that will be remembered. If anything, it's a very stupid film, but entertaining nonetheless. There were a couple of clever aspects about it. I loved the T-Rex ("he has the brain the size of a walnut"). There was a little hint of David in the Lion's Den there towards the end between the T-Rex and Ferrell which I thought was clever too. The Cha-ka character was also very funny, and Ferrell was good too. The costumes are so amateurish, such as the Sleestak and Cha-ka himself, but they work as a nice little throwback to the 50s. I definitely didn't think it was as bad as what most critics have been saying about it.

David and Margaret = Santa and his elf? icon_razz.gif

I find them very amusing to watch. Haha! David gave it half a star! and Maragret couldn't help but giggle at the scene they showed for it...
LOL. The reviewers are stupid. It's only 3 minutes longer than the first one (so, I don't know, maybe it drags on towards the end?). I was reading the review over at yourMovies. They say basically the same thing. The first 90 minutes is full on action but that it loses momentum from then on.

The first movie was entertainment at its best, so if TF2 is anything like the first, then I should be in for one hell of a ride! 1 more week to go!!!
Thelma & Louise

I haven't seen it before. I'd only heard of it before, but I was shocked in regards to how it ended.

The cast was great, Sarandon and Davis were excellent. Christopher McDonald, Brad Pitt and Harvey Kietel were good as well.

Some scenes were really funny (Thelma robbing the store being the highlight), and then other scenes were really dramatic, etc. I'm surprised I hadn't seen it earlier. Kudos to Ridley Scott (if that means anything almost 20 years later)...

9/10

Bird On A Wire

I haven't seen this one before either. It's from the good ole Mel days and stars Goldie Hawn and David Carradine (whom is the reason I decided to give this flick a watch).

Carradine didn't have much of a role despite being the primary antagonist, so I was disappointed with that. His role was a mere caricature. But luckily it was a very enjoyable flick nonetheless. Some light humor and some fairly enjoyable, though dated, action. Hawn was great, providing much of the comic relief, and I loved Gibson's character in the whole hairdressing scene if anybody's seen it before.

7/10
The Hangover

With all the massively positive buzz surrounding it, I couldn't help but have such heightened expectations when entering the cinema. I wasn't disappointed. It was a very funny movie with some outrageous situations in which these hilarious characters were placed in. Zach Galifianakis was the highlight by far in my opinion. Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper were also good. As for the plot, it was totally unpredictable and it had me guessing as to what would happen next. It's very entertaining. Although it was also well written and was cleverly tied together by the end. I can only look forward to the sequel, which is already on the drawing board.

8/10
I Love You, Man

I just got back home from the cinema after watching this. It really is a funny movie. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel didn't disappoint. They made for a great duo. I did feel as though a couple of the gags were worn thin by the end, but overall it's a very witty comedy, or as the critics are calling it "bromantic comedy." It follows a similar path to your average romantic comedy: boy meets girl (or in this case boy meets boy), etc. Jaime Pressley and Jon Favreau are also good, and Thomas Lennon continues to impress after having me clutching at my stomach in 17 Again.

Fanboys

I've been wanting to see this for a long while now. While it definitely has some hilarious moments I do have my issues with it, mainly concerning the whole plot. There's a great premise here that had a lot of potential. This story set not too long before the release of The Phantom Menace about these friends - who're obviously Star Wars fanboys - who travel across the state to get their hands on a rough cut of the movie as one of them is dying from cancer and only has a couple of months left. However, I didn't think it was executed as well as it could have been. It could have been done a whole lot better. Then again, it was to be expected as it was intended to be released a few years ago, and since then it has encountered many issues and gone through numerous different cuts. Anyways, it's nonetheless a very funny movie. Fans of Star Wars (and Star Trek alike) will get a whole lot of fun out of this. The countless cameos are great as well. From Seth Rogen to William Shatner.

I wrote a preview about it.
You did too...

... But what I actually meant was that the announcement of FFXIV wasn't at all a highlight for you? I mean, it doesn't have to be, but for me it came as the shock moment of E3...
Re: E3 2009 Roundtable (1 year ago)
Nobody is surprised, shock, pleased by - not even a mention of - Final Fantasy XIV!?
Terminator Salvation

I just have to agree with the all those negative reviews. Very disappointed. I agree that the characters were two dimensional. I thought they were completely uninteresting. Although, I wasn't even left impressed by Worthington, which many reviews have praised. Anton Yelchin was probably the most impressive, and surprisingly, I didn't mind Moon Bloodgood either. Christian Bale was bland, and again, completely uninteresting. I was hoping at least he would offer something decent towards the flick given some of his spectacular performances in past films, but I was let down. As for the action sequences, they also disappointed. They never grasped my attention. This whole movie was just completely dull. The character of Wright was a fresh little idea for the franchise, I just didn't think it was executed well at all, and Worthington didn't help it much. The only thing that truly gets my praise is that "surprise" cameo. I thought they pulled that off fairly well. Some will find enjoyment in this if they don't go in expecting a "true" Terminator flick or any deeply explored plots and characters, but I was left thoroughly disappointed. No wonder it isn't performing at the box office as well as it was expected to.

The Last House On the Left

I watched this a few nights back. This is the remake that was released in the U.S. not long ago. I haven't seen the Wes Craven original though, but this remake definitely surpassed my expectations and I'll regard as the best shock/suspense thriller of all time. It truly is amazing.

The pacing is superb and the whole plot will keep you in suspense from the very start to the gut-wrenching finale. It is a film I wouldn't recommend at all for the faint of heart. There's scenes that will have you cringing and others that are so well acted and so very believable that you'll feel so guilty of actually sitting through. This movie pushes the boundaries.

As for the performances, the film is so well acted. There's a r*** scene that, as I stated before, it is so believable that I actually felt so guilty of actually sitting through. Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter are remarkable assuming the roles of Mary's parents I thought, and how they went to such extreme, totally believable lengths, in my opinion, to exact vengeance on the people who beat, raped and attempted to murder their daughter, but it was also so realistic in the way they planned it all. Spencer Clark is also very good.

Was watching Vicar of Dibley on UKTV. Haven't seen it before but Dawn French was hilarious!
OH. EM. GEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super excited for this one! Cannot wait! I'll be watching this teaser over and over again just to see all these characters back after so, so long! icon_biggrin.gif

Will be coming out June 24, 2010 here!
Haven't seen Giant Peach, but loved Monkeybone, and Nightmare is one of my all-time favorites!

Just came back from seeing Night At the Museum 2... I found Hank Azaria as the villain Khamunrah to be the highlight of the movie. If it wasn't for him I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did. His mannerisms and all, he was a crackup!

Anyways, I really did love this movie. I enjoyed the first. It was entertaining and a sort of different concept, but with this sequel they really cranked it up a notch. Bill Hader as General Custer was great, and Napoleon too... Loved Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan as well, again, especially towards the end when they went 300 style. Amy Adams was very good too as Earhart, and I enjoyed Robin Williams as the Smithsonian Roosevelt...

A surprisingly witty script, a great ensemble, and overall it was very funny. It completely caught me off guard (no pun intended)... Although, as some critics have criticized, it does suffer from excessive use of special effects. The one whole sequence involving the spaceships and all felt unnecessary...

Coraline

It's a very strange sort of animation, and it's very different from the usual Disney/Pixar or DreamWorks animated blockbusters. If anything, it's more along the lines of a Tim Burton flick. First of all, the stop-motion animations are amazing! Every ounce of work the people involved with the production pitched in really shows here. It's very impressive. As for the plot, it's strange, quirky and occasionally even creepy. That's where you think twice if it's aimed at children or who? It focuses around a girl called Coraline (not Caroline) who moves into a new home. Her parents never pay her any real attention to her, but she finds a small doorway which leads into what is basically mirrors her own home and that's where she meets her "other mother," who has buttons for eyes and spoils her with delicious food, presents and anything else she could possibly want, but little does Coraline know it's all one big trap. There's plenty of twists and turns as well.

7/10

The Haunting in Connecticut

As with most horror movies these days, it claims to be based on actual events. Surprisingly decent, or at least when compared to other horror movies in recent times, it does offer a few chills and scares here and there, but then again, it is basically just your average haunted house horror story, similar to that of Amityville. I did like the cast though. Kyle Gallner was good in the lead role, and Amanda Crew was good as well. Madsen was just OK. She seems to be losing her focus on what roles to choose these days.

5/10

Lesbian Vampire Killers

It was a pain to sit through. Nodding off every now and then; some have been claiming it as "another Shaun of the Dead," but if that was the case then I'd be clutching at my gut in laughter. This was so unfunny. There is a basis for comedy, but it's just not done well at all. Then it just becomes a completely stupid idea, even for a "horror/comedy." James Corden (who plays Fletch) was the only mildly amusing character there. Don't get me wrong though, it has its ups *wink, wink*

2/10
Rachel McAdams *drools* icon_biggrin.gif
It is a sequel!!!! I realize the book was written, published and takes place before The Da Vinci Code, but the movie itself is technically a sequel. The script was written as a sequel. It also ever so slightly acknowledges the events in The Da Vinci Code, so don't go "ragin" at me...
Angels & Demons

With all the hype and controversy surrounding The Da Vinci Code, I was kind of expecting a lot from that movie. An action-packed thrill-ride in the vein of The Librarian or Indiana Jones, but instead of discovering Da Vinci's long held secrets, I discovered the cure for insomnia. It was boring and I had completely lost interest by the time things had finally begun to unfold. So I saw this sequel without much enthusiasm and while it betters The Da Vinci Code from most aspects, it still suffers from slow-paced storytelling. It runs for about 140 minutes but it isn't until the last half-hour or so things finally began to kick off, when the "thrill" of "thriller" came into act. These honestly aren't my type of movies. Nonetheless, Angels & Demons is a well made film and betters the first one, but not by much.

6/10

Fired Up

Really enjoyed it. Consistently funny, well written dialogue, and some hilarious running gags... I'm just sayin.

Anyways, the two protagonists are mere caricatures of your average teen comedy. They're a blend between the direct-to-DVD American Pie movies and the Bring it On sequels, but this is exactly why I found this movie so enjoyable. It's almost a parody of itself. Loved the reference to the first Bring it On as well.

It's formulaic and it's nothing special, but it's fresh and funny.

7/10
Saw Star Trek too.

Loved the actors. Loved the effects. Loved the action.

But what really is the highlight of the movie in my opinion are the characters. I've never been so much a fan. I've only ever seen bits and pieces of the Nemesis movie, but these characters are some of the best I've come across. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto were great. Simon Pegg was hilarious. Eric Bana was good too, almost unrecognizable though in the role of the villain Nero. Quinto's Spock takes the cake in my opinion. Being half-breed of human and Vulcan, caught between emotions. I also loved Leonard Nimoy's appearance. He was well written into the story and played a fairly important role. He wasn't just used as a gimmick.

There's certainly something fresh about this movie that should attract both fans and newcomers alike. Recommended.
$163 million in less than a week = success.
No! That's a third of a poster! icon_razz.gif

That is pretty awesome though.
After the success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine this past weekend, which has currently managed US$163 million worldwide, yesterday came official worde that a sequel which will take place in Japan is officially on the way. Jackman will again produce through his production company Seed Productions. A scene shown after the movie's end credits teased the Japanese locale, showing Wolverine drinking in a bar in Japan.

Jackman has always expressed his infatuation with the Japanese story arc that originated in the comics and has recently revealed that he has spoken to various writers to tackle the project.

In light of this news is confirmation of a Deadpool spin-off. A movie based on the "merc with a mouth" has long been anticipated by fans everywhere. Reynolds himself has long spoken of his wanting to star in a movie based on the character, as well as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and Fox Chairman Tom Rothman.

A scene shown after the movie's end credits had already hinted at the possibility of a spin-off. Whether the film will follow in these footsteps or take a different sort of direction is yet to be announced.

Reynolds is already set to reprise the role of Wade Wilson from Wolverine.
