Re: Updated Australian Release List - 22/08/10 (2 weeks ago)
WoW:Cataclysm provisional date. Could be close I was thinking late November based on timing and last release.
Re: E3 2010 Feature: PALGN E3 Summary (2 months ago)
3DS sounds and looks great from the vids.
Nintendo had a great show (hmm unusual for me to say that) looking forward to a bit of old skool DK County. Bit meh on the Zelda stuff but we will see how it shapes up. Knowing Nintendo we will probably have to wait a year before we get all this.
MS despite all its massive cash and resources still seems like the 2nd cousin all the time @ E3. Kinect did look ok but the pricing is up there so not sure how that will translate to casuals etc. In my mind 360 is a core players console.
Sony had a good hit out but they lost the chance with The Last Guardian not available.
Enjoyable E3 and tks for PLAGN's coverage.

I seriously doubt Nintendo would release Mario Galaxy 2 before an E3.
Demon's Souls seems like an age away.

Re: Demon's Souls finally gets a PAL release (4 months ago)
Awesome! Good news.
Re: Nintendo DSi price drop (4 months ago)
The reason why they release new "variants" is because they believe through marketing they can expand their customer base by adding said features. Plus the level of competitiveness in the hand held space sort is very focused. DSi is also competing against mobiles and iPhone/iPod, etc.
DSi XL is probably aimed at a more mature audience with some sight impairments and possibly towards the education space (although I expect iPad or tablet style devices to get a bit of this).
Don't believe Nintendo thinks majority of the people with a DSi to buy a DSi Xl.

Re: Finally, some Metroid: Other M gameplay footage (5 months ago)
The switching between Wii remote positions looks like it may take a bit to get used too.
Re: Nintendo 3DS announced (5 months ago)
This could slow down DSi sales but who can tell. Nintendo have NEVER been accurate when it comes to releasing hardware so I'd expect end of next year for us cats.
DSi LL was on my list of maybes so I expect I'll wait till after E3. Might put the money towards an iPad.

@ Fly but we are not trying to treat a disease and the problem with the world today is they think everything has to be "something".
If we can coin the "something" than we all feel better and pat ourselves on the back. But my point being is that this a frivolous waste of resource on a subject that doesn't require the scrutiny its already been treated with sex, drugs and tobacco.
What Australians desire is fair equity to entertainment and the right to be able choose that entertainment. What self interested parties do is obscure the argument that perpetrates their own self interests.
Like yourself I'd like to see the enormous waste of effort go into proper disease research not self interested parties.

Well I see more aggression in people driving in traffic. Yet we still let people drive.
Look I understand studies should be done but we are wasting a lot of good money because the contributing factors for violence were around long before video games were invented.
So lets cut to the chase implement a R Rated system so dumb asses with less intelligence than mule turd with tracks through it knows exactly what they are buying. Put the same laws around the sale of tobacco and alcohol to minors and there she blows. Saved millions of dollars and the universe can go chase fairies on another topic until common sense prevails.

Well I think historically they all "steal" a little innovation from each other and to be really frank why shouldn't they unless it infringes patents of course.
Analogue stick on the N64 was a good idea (thumb position was a tad ordinary IMHO) so PS dual shock set the precedence after that.
The greater capacity from CD/DVDs led to the changes on the GameCube. Eventually there will be a hi def Wii because Dad will look at GT 5 on a PS3 and go I need that to play racing sims.
You know I'd be pretty pissed car driver if they didn't improve tires from the first Ford shipped.
An bleating about too many Mario games is like asking Disney to stop using Mickey Mouse. Its not going to happen.
The revelation of casual gamers has spread beyond consoles to Facebook and the iPhone. So whilst Nintendo has quietly stolen a huge PS2 fan base (lets face it PS2 had most of those family oriented titles) casual gaming has spiraled out in other forms.

Wow Demon's Souls actually coming to ANZ?

Good friend and next door neighbour is a senior customs guy. Trust me they will enforce it if the government mandates it.
Re: Left 4 Dead 2 still banned in Aus (10 months ago)
Fascinating and entertaining to say the least.
The web will ultimately be censored in Australia (yes I know plans are already afoot) which means Steam etc. will get black listed so the only chance you will have is get overseas friends to send it in the mail. Customs have nice tricks as well so eventually that will fail consistently.

Re: PS3 does big sales (11 months ago)
I understand the comment on games console first but lets face it iPhone is a firstly a phone but is a really useful device for gaming, web surfing, email, chat, video playback, etc.
Being a mutli funcional device in a very cluttered audio/visual setup in a lounge room can't hurt.
Sony in hindight should not have focused so hard on blu ray initially. Having said that I've enjoyed blu ray playback since the launch.
Slim PS3 is a good thing for Sony fans and the software industry itself. Its important for them that Sony be successful.

Re: The Conduit Review (1 year ago)
It may appeal to the folks on the Wii that want a FPS.
Fairly obvious that the hardcore amongst us isn't going to be electrified by this but every console needs fps genres. The Wii is "plagued" by very generic family oriented games. Maybe Dad would like this for Father's day (not this one though

Re: This Week's Releases - 13/07/09 (1 year ago)
Does it also imply now Nintendo is releasing the bundle that the Motion Plus peripheral will be available as an accessory?
Re: PS3 price-cut doesn't fit 'long-term' plans (1 year ago)
Well when the fickle casual user gets tired of the Wii people will complain as well when their sales drop.
Any 3rd parties actually making from the Wii?
Xbox 360 sales look good because people are constantly replacing them.
If you half asses ever decide to run a company please let me know. I'd like my investment dollars to go elsewhere.
I'd like software developers to drop their price because at $88 to higher a throw for a new game is pifiully appalling given the short life expectancy.
So whist ye all bemoan Sony I think the industry suffers from a different problem one them is the proliferation of said casual gamers does nothing to help the more serious gamer.

Most 3rd party's aren't making money from the Wii either despite the sales.
Do I believe Sony need to look at measures to reduce their cost of sale and in turn reducing teh price of a PS3? By all means. Blu ray players are half the price meaning the added advantage is disappearing. Bundling software can only make your product attractive for so long. Sony don't have deep pockets like MS.
Activision aren't the only ones analyst what them too as well.

Re: EA Sports Active Review (1 year ago)
Yes, it just sits there and waits or sometimes prompting you many times before you can move on. You really have to get the pose or whatever correct before it will move on.
It generally happens on side lunges (and its variations) and bicep curls with shoulder press.

Unlike Wii fit this will actually improve your cardio and overall fitness.
You can always add stronger rubber bands for more intense workout.
Combine with a 20 to 30 minute walk an dyou will notice the difference.
Female voice over does become monotonous.
The Wii motion control sometimes is bit iffy causing the program to get stuck waiting for you to finish a move.

Re: Miyamoto believes in physical controllers (1 year ago)
I agree with Shiggsy its going to be difficult to get the "feel" right without some form of physical object to provide the necessary interaction.
Mind you he is going to say that because they don't do it today
.
But MS are half smart you can always sell a plastic model gun etc. Its not insurmountable. I like the grenade concept that is quite a good idea.

Re: Rumour: New Xbox coming next year with Natal (1 year ago)
Can't see MS bringing out a new next gen console as such.
Slimline 360 that is more reliable and includes the motion sensing that I could see. Reduces costs in terms of support and manufacturer.

Re: E3 2009 Roundtable (1 year ago)
I think I full into the pleasantly surprised camp.
The lack of chest beating through market share was gone and replaced with products and games (heaven forbid).
Nintendo responded to its lack of clarity around hard core gamers by opening up with a salvo of Mario and Metroid. Although the Zelda quip was typical Nintendo and I don't believe with their track record they will deliver a Zelda for the Wii next year.
MS conference special was enticing and Natal was definitely intriguing although not unexpected. MS have always portrayed their consoles as hard core so its difficult to see them persuading a non technical gaming population why I should buy this over a Wii and/or the very successful PS2. Apart from Halo most of the other games are available on PC or other consoles.
Sony's pre-E3 PSP Go was telling I think it took a lot of guts to do that but it was important because that announcement in E3 proper may have diluted the PS3 story. PS3 easily had the best exclusive game line up. GoW III awesomely gorgeous game (although I think I may be GoW out after PS2).
The game I still look forward too is Dragon Age I hope it meets expectations.

Re: E3 2009: Microsoft Conference Live Blog (1 year ago)
The camera sensing was good the demo did look canned unfortunately.
Some of the folks in the media gave their impressions so it obviously does do something.
Hopefully they will meld it quickly into future games. I do agree with Tony Hawks you can't do everything without a peripheral of various sorts (i.e. you do drive a real car with a steering wheel
).

Re: E3 2009: Nintendo Conference Liveblog (1 year ago)
Nintendo surprised me a little by showing some "hard core" titles. The reason I say this is they don't listen most of the time.
WiiMotion plus still looks very good. EA tennis should be a treat.

I agree the Sony show as a good one. Very impressive line up of games. Something for everyone.
Look forward to more information on the motion controls.
GoW 3 just looked fantastic.

Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy revealed (1 year ago)
Firstly, I think its a great deal. Having played MP1 (gamecube) to a point if the newer controls makes it a better experience I'm all for it.
On the point of re-hashing games. I'm not a big fan of that practice. Its actually worse than sequelitis. No new story just updated graphics and controls. Its lazy.
Hard core gamers still think in terms of Zelda OOT and Mario 64. Sadly, I'm of the opinion Nintendo have never ever got back to that pinnacle. Whilst people in the forum lament no new games the last great Nintendo game is highly debatable but I think you could even go right back to Zelda OOT.
Wii will never be a "hard core" gaming machine purely because its never been designed technically nor marketed that way. Nintendo have a rich history of broken promises so the chances of hard core gamers being satisfied remains to be seen. Maybe E3 will be different but I'm a cynical old dog I think we shall just see maybe a glimmer of a game which will probably end up on Wii version 2 (Wii HD??).

Excellent game. The "direction finding" system was top notch. Lot to like about Dead Space including the great audio.
Re: Reeves predicts PS3 will be on top in 3-5 years (1 year ago)
Dude if your PS3 is louder than the 360 I'd get a new one.
There is no way in hades you will ever convince me the PS3 is louder than a 360.
I have 7 current gen consoles (includes a slimline PS2) and without a doubt the star under achiever in terms of engineering is the Xbox 360.
Its loud (has been reduced somewhat you can load onto hard drive prior to that the DVD mechanism whines all the time), it suffers horrible reliability (well documented) and it featured HDMI after the launch (mine was purchased day one so still has the component interface) and no inbuilt WiFi.
Its biggest saving grace is Live! and they did that for the PC too. So its not hardware dependent.
So whilst I respect you believe your Xbox is much better engineered than the PS3 I'd respectfully beg to differ.
